The Slavic Academic Information Centre [Polish: Centrum Slawistycznej Informacji Naukowej] conducts work devoted to Slavic research information, modern methodologies and the practice of managing and distributing of information and knowledge in the field of Slavic linguistics and related fields.

By continuing the tradition of Polish Slavic studies of more than 100 years, the CSIN team coordinates the work of an international group of linguists on the bibliography of Slavic linguistics in the world. During the ten years which elapsed since the establishment of the Centre in 1993, owing to the collaboration of Slavists from Polish and non-Polish academic centres 6 tomes (7 volumes) of the Bibliography of Slavic linguistics (original Polish title: Bibliografia językoznawstwa slawistycznego) covering the years 1992-1997, including a total of more than 40,000 bibliographical items, were published. At the same time, benefitting from the organisational support of the Towarzystwo Naukowe Warszawskie, the CSIN team conducted work on the computerisation of bibliography, whose result consisted in the establishment of the modern system of Slavic bibliographical information known as iSybislaw at the turn of 2008 (see: the history of bibliography).

The base of the iSybislaw system currently makes available 22,000 records which contain in the search queries of documents information about the content and formal features of various types of works (monographs, dictionaries, joint publications, periodicals, articles, reviews et alia) published in Europe and beyond from 1992 until the present. This information is relevant for the users. This unique modern bibliographical base, which since 2014 additionally makes available complete texts of documents by means of links, constitutes a compendium of knowledge about Slavic languages. The CSIN team receives the organisational support of the Slavic Foundation (Fundacja Slawistyczna) as far as the extension and enhancement of the system is concerned.

The Slavic Academic Information Centre promotes the activities concerning the digitalisation of research projects. In the years 2012-2014 the CSIN team participated in the realisation of the Digital Repository of the Scientific Institutes [Repozytorium Cyfrowe Instytutów Naukowych (RCIN)] research grant, whose main premise was associated with the establishment of a supra-regional and multidisciplinary digital repository consisting of digitised archive materials, scholarly publications, documentation of research and the literary cultural heritage.

Since 2014 the CSIN maintains the iReteslaw online repository of texts in the field of Slavic studies containing texts of academic works representing Slavic philology (linguistics, literature as well as the culture of Slavic peoples and languages).

In 2016 the members of the CSIN team established the "Digital Slavic Studies" workgroup within the DARIAH-PL consortium, whose leader became the Institute of Slavic Studies. DARIAH-PL belongs to the international DARIAH-EU consortium. The aim of the group that was established is associated with the cooperation of the interdisciplinary group of Polish and non-Polish specialists as well as the coordination of their activities for the sake of the development of an integrated and effective research infrastructure to service the needs of research in the field of European Slavic linguistics, comparative Slavic-non-Slavic linguistics and related fields.

Innovative methods and tools which facilitated the optimalisation of information-query systems, especially the iSybislaw system and, in a broader context, the information systems, are presented by the employees of the CSIN at international congresses and conferences and in articles published in international periodicals and in joint publications.

The Slavic Academic Information Centre actively collaborates with the Commission of Linguistic Bibliography at the International Committee of Slavists and with Polish and non-Polish academic centres, among others with the Institute of Slavic Philology of the University of Wrocław, the Institute of Polish Philology of the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, the Department of Belarusian Studies of the University of Warsaw, the Institute of the Czech Language of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic in Prague, the Ľ. Štúr Institute of Linguistics in Bratislava, the Research Centre for Areal Linguistics of the Macedonian Academy of the Arts and Sciences in Skopje, the Institute of Slavic Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences in Moscow, the Department of Philology of the Lomonosov Moscow State University, the Department of Foreign Languages and Regional Studies of the Lomonosov Moscow State University, the Yakub Kolas Institute of Linguistics of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus in Minsk, the Institute of the Ukrainian Language of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine in Kiev, the Sorbian Institute in Bautzen.
