In many higher education institutions (HEIs), English often serves as the primary &#13;
language within internationalized academic circles and an important medium of &#13;
instruction with varying implications for international students and instructors who rely &#13;
on English-medium instruction (EMI). Effective language policy and planning (LPP) is &#13;
essential to support the integration of EMI while addressing the challenges of &#13;
internationalization and multilingual diversity. This study analyzes language policies &#13;
and EMI implementation in Poland, alongside the attitudes and preparedness of local &#13;
instructors implementing these programs. Using data from institutional documents and &#13;
instructor surveys, our findings highlight gaps in policies, regulations, and instructor &#13;
preparation, indicating a need for improvement in the institution’s internationalization &#13;
processes and professional development offers. The study advocates for developing &#13;
inclusive, multilingual policies and comprehensive support mechanisms for students, &#13;
faculty, and staff to promote linguistic diversity, international collaboration, and &#13;
academic integration in Polish HEIs.

Książka jest efektem projektu badawczego pt. „Topos wmurowanej kobiety w kulturach&#13;
Europy Południowo-Wschodniej i Węgier”, sfinansowanego ze środków NCN&#13;
(2020/37/B/HS2/00152). Poświęcona została problematyce adaptacji wędrownego&#13;
ludowego toposu wmurowanej kobiety, który z tradycji oralnej krajów Europy&#13;
Południowo-Wschodniej i Węgier przeniknął do nowoczesnych i ponowoczesnych kultur&#13;
narodowych tego obszaru. Granice eksploracji badawczej pokrywały się z granicami&#13;
występowania pieśni ludowych i legend o ofierze z kobiety, którą – według wierzeń –&#13;
budowniczowie składali w fundamentach wznoszonej budowli użyteczności publicznej&#13;
&#13;
(mostu, twierdzy, czeszmy, świątyni) jako ofiarę zakładzinową, by powstrzymać rozpad&#13;
swojego dzieła. Dziesięcioosobowy zespół naukowy, którego członkowie i członkinie&#13;
reprezentują rozmaite specjalności i specjalizacje badawcze, interesowały jednak nade&#13;
wszystko transformacje tego z pozoru marginalnego fragmentu europejskiego folkloru w&#13;
nowoczesnych literaturach narodowych i sztuce od XIX do XXI wieku, w teatrze, filmie,&#13;
performansie, kulturze popularnej i edukacji. W monografii prezentujemy efekty tego&#13;
oryginalnego (z uwagi na źródła) rozpoznawania i interpretacji zasobów kulturowych,&#13;
wygenerowanych wokół toposu wmurowanej kobiety na całym założonym obszarze, a&#13;
więc w kulturze albańskiej, bośniackiej, bułgarskiej, chorwackiej, czarnogórskiej,&#13;
greckiej, macedońskiej, rumuńskiej, serbskiej, słoweńskiej i węgierskiej. Pokazujemy, w&#13;
jaki sposób topos ten został wcielony w owe kanony narodowe i jakim przekształceniom&#13;
musiał ulec, by mógł się stać elastycznym elementem narodowej semiosfery, a także, czy&#13;
rzeczywiście wszędzie do tego doszło. Omawiamy przekształcenia toposu w tekstach&#13;
alternatywnych w stosunku do kanonów narodowych, jego funkcjonalizacje, strategie&#13;
adaptacji niekiedy do sprzecznych potrzeb artystycznych, ideowych, ideologicznych i&#13;
merkantylnych. Stawiana w centrum uwagi zmiana udziela wskazówek do głębszego&#13;
zrozumienia badanych kultur oraz wpisanych w nie jawnych i niejawnych wyborów&#13;
aksjologicznych (tych zmieniających się w czasie, ale też tych, które wykazują&#13;
nieustępliwą obecność i siłę w każdej epoce historycznej).&#13;

Książka jest najobszerniejszym w skali globalnej i najbardziej wnikliwym kompendium&#13;
wiedzy na przedłożony temat. Jej przesłanie wykracza poza historię jednego popularnego&#13;
motywu wędrownego – jest istotnym głosem w debacie na temat kondycji kobiety w&#13;
świecie.; The book is the result of a research project entitled “The topos of an immured woman in&#13;
the cultures of Southeastern Europe and Hungary”, funded by the National Science Centre&#13;
[NCN] (2020/37/B/HS2/00152). It is focused on the adaptation of the wandering folk&#13;
topos of the walled-up woman, which has spread from the oral tradition of South-Eastern&#13;
Europe and Hungary into the modern and postmodern national cultures of this area. The&#13;
boundaries of the research exploration coincided with the boundaries of the occurrence of&#13;
folk songs and legends about the sacrifice of a woman who, according to beliefs, was&#13;
placed by builders in the foundations of a public building (bridge, fortress, fountain,&#13;
temple) as a foundation sacrifice to prevent the collapse of their work. However, the ten-&#13;
member research team, whose members represent various research specialisations and&#13;
disciplines, was primarily interested in the transformations of this ostensibly marginal&#13;
fragment of European folklore in modern national literatures and art from the 19th to the&#13;
21st century, in theatre, film, performance, popular culture and education. In this&#13;
monograph, we present the results of this original (given the sources) exploration and&#13;
interpretation of cultural resources generated around the topos of the walled-up woman&#13;
throughout the entire area under consideration, i.e. in Albanian, Bosnian, Bulgarian,&#13;
Croatian, Montenegrin, Greek, Macedonian, Romanian, Serbian, Slovenian and Hungarian&#13;
cultures. We demonstrate how this topos was incorporated into these national canons and&#13;
what transformations it underwent to become a flexible element of the national&#13;
semiosphere, as well as whether this process occurred everywhere. We discuss the&#13;
transformations of the topos in texts that are alternative to national canons, its&#13;
functionalisation, and strategies of adaptation to sometimes contradictory artistic,&#13;
ideological, and mercantile needs. The change that is the focus of our attention provides&#13;
clues to a deeper understanding of the cultures under study and the explicit and implicit&#13;
axiological choices embedded in them (those that change over time, but also those that&#13;
show an unyielding presence and strength in every historical epoch).&#13;
&#13;
The book is the most comprehensive and insightful compendium of knowledge on the&#13;
subject on a global scale. Its message goes beyond the history of one popular wandering&#13;
motif – it is an essential voice in the debate on the condition of women in the world.&#13;

Poland has recently received a significant influx of migrants, presenting both challenges and &#13;
opportunities for a society traditionally perceived as monolingual and monocultural, as well as &#13;
for its higher education system. As migrants living and conducting research in Warsaw, Poland, &#13;
from diverse sociocultural backgrounds, we have witnessed firsthand the increasing &#13;
internationalization, linguistic and cultural diversity, and the resulting complexities faced by &#13;
academic institutions. Using a duoethnographic approach, we reflect on our lived experiences as &#13;
part of a transdisciplinary, cross-cultural research team. Through an ethnographic analysis of &#13;
personal narratives and critical incidents, we identified systemic gaps in higher education &#13;
institutions, including insufficient support mechanisms and communication skills to address the &#13;
needs of international students and scholars. These shortcomings can lead to exclusion, &#13;
discrimination, and existential personal challenges for those navigating academia abroad. We &#13;
thus advocate for improved policies and support mechanisms for all members of the academic &#13;
community through heteroglossic practices and the establishment of international, hybrid Communities of Practice to de-hierarchize higher education and facilitate cross-cultural &#13;
collaboration.

<summary type="text">Postsecular Thought and Literary Studies: Towards the Problem of “the Religious” within a Local Cultural Context

The paper raises the question of investigating the religious in the perspective of the grand narrative of Western modernity, which is seen as secular(ist) and hegemonic. It is argued that the discourse of literary studies is of primary importance for the study of the relationship between religion and modernity; as such, it may contribute to epistemological and methodological self-interrogation of the Western model. Firstly, a particular notion of postsecular thought that may serve as a perspective for investigating the local experience of modernisation is suggested. Secondly, the very significant research problem of the religious within modern Bulgarian culture is presented as an example of addressing the issue of adapting the Western (European) understanding of the religious to a non-Western (European) cultural context. The study’s reference points are Slavic cultural and literary studies.

<summary type="text">Beloved books and contested standards: Translations of “The Little Prince” into selected collateral languages of Poland

Language standardisation is often closely connected with the literary process. Literary works, both original and translated, influence the language itself and how it is viewed inside and outside of the speakers' community. The paper discusses the possible influence of translated literature on minority languages on the example of three collateral languages of Poland: Kashubian, Silesian and Masurian. To do so, we are looking at the roles played in these linguistic communities by the translations of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry's “The Little Prince”, usually one of the first books translated into minority languages around the world.

<summary type="text">Ideological debates around the script of collateral languages: the case of Kashubian and Silesian in Poland

Our paper discusses the modes of creating normalized orthographies for two collateral languages of Poland, Kashubian and Silesian. In both cases, the creation of a literary form is a way of raising their prestige and an argument for their legal recognition. While Kashubian has a status of a “regional language” of Poland, Silesian is still contested despite large community support for its linguistic autonomy.&#13;
We analyze how different orthography systems are created, promoted and what ideological debates they provoke. We distinguish between two kinds of scripts. The first option is a “compromise”, closer to the standard Polish, which aims to facilitate learning collateral language in formal education for those who are Polish first language speakers. The second is a “classical” or “identity-strengthening” version that builds upon the historical forms of local scripts. It aims to distinguish it from the standard Polish to reinforce the groups’ identity as separate from the dominant society.&#13;
Based on an analysis of in-depth interviews with language activists and the context in which the Kashubian and Silesian languages function, we explore the ideological debates around the creation of collateral languages’ writing systems.

"Słownik mówionej polszczyzny północnokresowej" gromadzi leksykę funkcjonującą w polszczyźnie północnokresowej w okresie 1925–2013 na obszarze Białorusi, Litwy i Łotwy, czyli dawnego Wielkiego Księstwa Litewskiego i Inflant Polskich. Całość liczy 1446 stron (12 500 haseł). Podstawę materiałową stanowi słownictwo wyekscerpowane z tekstów mówionych pozyskanych przez autorów Słownika w trakcie ich własnych wieloletnich badań terenowych oraz ze wszystkich dostępnych publikacji badaczy tej odmiany języka pochodzących z różnych krajów i reprezentujących różne dyscypliny naukowe. Został opracowany własny, autorski sposób zapisu hasła obejmujący: wyraz hasłowy i jego warianty, oznaczenia gramatyczne, kwalifikatory stylistyczne i chronologiczne, znaczenia, przykłady użycia leksemu hasłowego, synonimy, frazeologię, dokumentację form gramatycznych i ich wariantów. Słownik ukazuje zatem nie tylko leksemy, ale również wszystkie poziomy struktury tamtejszej polszczyzny (fonetykę, morfologię, składnię i frazeologię).
