Streszczenie:
The purpose of this article is to present the personality and the works of rev. Marcin
Czermiński, a Jesuit writer, journalist and missionary, who visited the Balkans several
times and wrote a few books in which he describes his journeys. In this text fragments of
his journey to Bosnia and Herzegovina at the end of 19th century are presented and
commented from the contemporary Islamic and Balkan studies point of view. The journey
of the Polish Jesuit included such places and cities as Banja Luka, Petrićevac, Krupa
na Vrbasu, Jajce, Podmilaĉje, Jezero, Travnik, Turbe, Sarajevo, Fojnica, Sutjeska, Mostar,
Blagaj, Poĉitelj and Stolac. The Author compares the information about manners,
customs and faith of inhabitants of Balkan given by Czermiński with the historical reality
and his impressions with the reality of Islamic religion.
