The paper deals with prefixal formation patterns in verbs expressing motion. Prefixation is the dominant type of verb formation, and what is described are prefixes used in the formation of verbal prefixals, as well as the meaning of the derived verbs. The starting point are motion verbs denoting human movement, regardless of whether they are derived or not. These verbs are imperfective, non-directive, primary verbs of movement: ići, pešačiti, šetati (se), marširati, hramati, gegati se, gacati, puzati, bauljati, plivati, roniti, trčati, juriti, bazati, lutati, tumarati. By prefixation they become perfective and directive. In addition to directivity (adlative, ablative, perlative meanings), they also acqure ingressive and sative meanings, although these are much rarer. Most productive prfixes are do- and od-. They are used to form prefixals with special directive, adlative and ablative meanings which put the focus on the structural elements of movement - the ending and starting point. |
