Abstract

Although diminutives are intended to signify objects or qualities of small size, however, in colloquial speech and (as its reflection) language of literature they are similar in their semantics and functioning to other ways of expressing subjective evaluation, primarily with augmentative formations - they are largely determined by the context and the situation, expressing the attitude to the size of an object, to the subject of the speech or to the addressee.
