Abstract

A major role in the creation or reform of certain standard Slavic languages was played by writers, essayists, and translators. Names worthy of mention include primarily H. Zejler, J. Bart-Ćišinski (Upper Sorbian); J. Jungmann (Czech); L Štur (Slovak); P. Trubar (Slovenian); B. Kašić (Croatian); V. Karadžić (Serbian); N. Rilski, P Slaveikov (Bulgarian); B. Koneski (Macedonian); M. Lomonpsov (Russian); B. Tarashkevich (Belarussian); I. Franko, P Kulish, I. Nechuy-Levytsky (Ukrainian). Particular attention is paid to the situation in Slavic languages in the wider European context.
