Abstract:
The article follows up and assesses the lexicographic activity of professor doctor Stoyko Stoykov – authorship and editing work – ever since he was appointed in the Institute for Bulgarian language to the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (1942) until his death in 1969. His contribution for the preparation of the single volume Bulgarian explanatory dictionary (1955) and the three-volume Dictionary of the modern Bulgarian standard language (1955–1959) is mentioned. The article presents his innovatory ideas about the creation of Ideographic dialect dictionary of the Bulgarian language and of comprehensive language of the Bulgarian dialect lexis, for which professor Stoykov created the foundations in a special lexical archive in the Institute for Bulgarian language. A tribute is paid to his contribution for the development of the Bulgarian dialect lexicography, as it was mainly summarized in his capital work The lexis of the Banat speech (1968).
