Abstract:
The article focuses on passive participle and [it’s] treatment in descriptive dictionaries of Serbian language. Our research aims to discover the circumstences under which this formally known as a verb form becomes proper adjective, as well as to find out when it is being lexicalized and accepted as an independent dictionary entry. Lexicographical analysis which this article presents indicates that there is no uniform systemic standpoint in lexicographic treatment of this type of lexemes. Undoubtedly, this problem is closely related to functional, morphological and semantic characteristics of the passive participle in Serbian language. Therefore, we will seek to describe some of the difficulties that lexicographers are faced with in lexicographic descriptions of these words. We will also discuss different treatment of various examples which contain passive participle preceding noun as an attribute (noun-modifier).
