dc.description.abstract The paper traces the fate of the Old Slavonic phrase oba na desęte that like the numeral dva na desote denoted twelve. Number 12 like other numbers (3, 4, 5, etc.) was regarded by both Israelites and Christians as sacral and symbolic. The phrase due to its meaning of collectivity and unity got objectified and came into use as the name for Jesus Christ’s disciples. en_US
