Abstract:
Loan words, also called borrowed words, are an important part of a language. These words are imported from one language into another in which they have become part of the vocabulary. The process of borrowing foreign words is generally geographical, cultural or historical. Thus, the geographical proximity, the cultural exchanges between the peoples of Europe, have promoted the interpenetration of one language into another and the appropriation of borrowed words, which, in turn, have become full lexicon of the new language. These loan words introduced into the language, are then adapted to the grammatical rules of the language receiving. For instance, in the Serbian word garantovati, we may recognize the loan word garant compounded with the Serbian suffix -ovati characteristic of verbal forms. If some words like interesovati, blokirati are suffixed, some others may be prefixed such as anormalan, alogiиan.
