The paper is a comparative study of Bulgarian and English military terminology and it discusses the process of terminologization investigating the mechanism of metaphorisation and the transfer of meaning by metonymy. A detailed classification of types of metaphorical and metonymical terms in both languages is presented and supported by examples.
