Abstract:
This article focuses on the so-called headword autonomy in the new monolingual dictionary of contemporary Czech. The highest possible autonomy of headwords is in accordance with the current general lexicographic trend – dictionaries being user-friendly. The new Akademický slovník současné češtiny (ASSČ; Academic Dictionary of Contemporary Czech) that is being compiled at the moment has that very ambition. In ASSČ, apart from autonomy of the headword in the list of headwords, special attention is being paid to autonomy of explanations at headwords with sense explanations based on word formation. The latter kind of autonomy is usually problematic in dictionary making.
