dc.description.abstract Since 1989, the Bulgarian language has seen a sharp increase in the number of nouns denoting persons of female gender. New terms have been introduced for some referents, new professions, roles, and domains of activity have come into being, and women have entered these as well as already existing professions and domains. The article describes the potential of the Bulgarian morphological system in realizing the language’s in-built opposition of gender. en_US
