Abstract:
The present research sets itself the task to juxtapose synchronically the Romanian and Bulgarian cases of tense sequence in complex sentences with subordinate adverbial clauses of time. The study focuses on combinations of verb forms employed to denote simultaneous actions in the main clause and the subordinate clause. These combinations tend to overlap in Romanian and Bulgarian in many of the cases when they serve to indicate simultaneous past, present and future events. However, unlike the Romanian counterpart which favors complex perfect forms, aorist verbs are more frequently employed in Bulgarian.
