Abstract:
The authors argue that language politeness has garnered much attention in linguistics. Politeness in language can be expressed through various means, e.g. through the fixed phrases used in specific contexts, which cannot be translated into other languages with the use of a single equivalent word or expression; they constitute non-equivalent lexis. Parallel language corpora provide ample data that can be used to study the nature of this process. No dictionaries of addressing forms have been developed up to date. Such dictionaries would make the work of translators and interpreters easier and more effective.
