Scientific cooperation

Staff members of the Institute of Slavic Studies of the Polish Academy of Sciences have been engaged in cooperation with foreign researchers for a number of years. Apart from participation in academic exchange and joint research grant projects, they are also invited by foreign academic institutions and give guest lectures during numerous research trips.

International scientific cooperation is conducted on the basis of cooperation protocols between the Polish Academy of Sciences and foreign Academies and other scholarly institutions. The Institute currently conducts 22 projects involving researchers from 11 countries: Belarus, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Macedonia,  Romania, Serbia, Slovakia and Ukraine.

Moreover, staff members of the Institute of Slavic Studies PAS are engaged in 4 projects involving researchers from 4 countries on the basis of mutual agreements concluded between the Institute of Slavic Studies and 6 foreign institutions:

  • the Institute of Ethnology of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic,
  • the Institute of Lithuanian Language in Vilnius (Lithuania),
  • the Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University in Ivano-Frankivsk (Ukraine),
  • the Yuriy Fedkovych National University in Chernivtsi (Ukraine),
  • the Centre for Urban History of Central and Eastern Europe in Lviv (Ukraine),
  • the Mikhail Kociubinski National Pedagogical University in Winnica (Ukraine).

In 2020 the researchers from the Institute of Slavic Studies PAS submitted 5 projects of new agreements, the implementation of which was scheduled for 2020-2022.

Staff members of the Institute present papers at conferences in Poland and abroad. In 2015 staff members of the Institute presented papers at 66 conferences held abroad, and gave 32 lectures at the invitation of foreign institutions of higher education from the following countries: Belarus, Bulgaria, Germany, France, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Russia, Ukraine, the United Kingdom and the United States. In 2020 they took part in 41 conferences held abroad (including online), and gave 11 lectures at the invitation of foreign institutions of higher education from the following countries: Belarus, Germany, Spain, Ukraine and the United States.

Under research grant projects and scholarships staff members visit the following countries: Belarus, Belgium, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal, Russia, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Ukraine, the United Kingdom, the United States. In 2020, because of the pandemic, only 1 scholar was able to go abroad under the visiting research fellowship programme of the PAS and visited Latvia. In addition, under research grant projects and scholarships 3 staff members visited the following countries: Germany, Serbia, the United Kingdom. In 2020, all arrivals were temporarily suspended due to the pandemic.
