The iReteslaw repository was established at the Institute of Slavic Studies, Polish Academy of Sciences with the organisational support of The Slavic Foundation, and includes two collections:

The collection “Dokumenty slawistyczne [Slavic documents]” is a unique, specialised repository of doctoral theses, abstracts, reviews and preprints of scholarly papers in the field of Slavic linguistics and related fields worldwide. Serving the dissemination and popularisation of academic papers, it facilitates the exchange of ideas between researchers in different centres and countries. iReteslaw is a thematic repository, which makes it different from institutional repositories – its content and scope is wider than in the case of traditional repositories, which are limited to the publications of a particular scholarly institution.

As of 2016, the collection “Wydawnictwa Instytutu Slawistyki Polskiej Akademii Nauk [Publications of the Institute of Slavic Studies, Polish Academy of Sciences]” serves as the book publishing platform of the Institute. The collection makes available books issued by the Institute, which since 2016 only appear electronically (or both electronically and in print). Also available are those volumes from before 2016, originally published in print, to which appropriate licences have been secured by the publisher. Some older works are to be found in the Digital Repository of Scientific Institutes (RCIN) in either open or restricted access.

The Institute publishes works devoted to Slavic linguistics, literary and cultural studies, and the history of Slavs in six book series: Język na Pograniczach [Borderland Languages], Literatura na Pograniczach [Borderland Literatures], Kultura na Pograniczach [Borderland Cultures], Prace Slawistyczne. Slavica [Monographs in Slavic Studies. Slavica], Idee Wędrowne na Słowiańskich Bałkanach [Migrating Ideas in the Slavic Balkans] and Діалектологічні студії / Studia Gwarowe [Dialectological Studies] (in cooperation with the I. Krypiakevych Institute of Ukrainian Studies, National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine). By way of exception, some monographs and collective volumes are issued outside those series.

All items in the repository are published in open access, under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) licence (until 2022 – under the CC BY 3.0 PL licence). This means that they are available free of charge to all users, including institutions. The users may read, download, copy, distribute, print and search the full text of each volume, as well as publish links to content, without the need to seek permission from the publisher or the author(s).

In the years 2017–2018, the project was financed under contract 695/P-DUN/2017 from the funds of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education intended for the dissemination of science.

In the years 2019–2020, the project was financed under contract 570/P-DUN/2019 from the funds of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education intended for the dissemination of science.
