Special Collections

Special Collections hold documentation relating to the scholarly activity of the Institute of Slavic Studies since it was established (1954), including the records of the following organisational units:

  • II Pracownia Dialektologiczna Zakładu Językoznawstwa PAN [The Second Research Unit of Dialectological Studies, Department of Linguistics, Polish Academy of Sciences] 1954–1955
  • Zakład Słowianoznawstwa [Department of Slavic Studies] 1954–1976
  • Instytut Słowianoznawstwa PAN [Institute of Slavic Studies, Polish Academy of Sciences] 1955–1992
  • Instytut Slawistyki PAN [Institute of Slavic Studies, Polish Academy of Sciences] since 1992.

Special Collections of the Institute of Slavic Studies hold:

  • study materials for Ogólnosłowiański atlas językowy [The Slavic Linguistic Atlas] – records for particular locations in the region of Kashubia, and Atlas gwar wschodniosłowiańskich Białostocczyzny [An Atlas of East Slavic Local Dialects in the Białystok Region]
  • study materials of staff members, e.g. Dr hab. Wanda Budziszewska, Prof. Dr hab. Kwiryna Handke, Prof. Dr hab. Hanna Popowska-Taborska, Prof. Dr hab. Ewa Rzetelska-Feleszko, Prof. Dr hab. Jadwiga Zieniukowa
  • audio recordings, e.g. the dialects of Old Believers from north-eastern Poland, Bulgaria and the United States
  • unique cartographic records, e.g. annotated maps [mapy napisowe] for Atlas gwar wschodniosłowiańskich Białostocczyzny [An Atlas of East Slavic Local Dialects in the Białystok Region] and Atlas językowy kaszubszczyzny i dialektów sąsiednich [A Linguistic Atlas of Kashubian and Neighbouring Dialects]
  • card files for Atlas gwar wschodniosłowiańskich Białostocczyzny [An Atlas of East Slavic Local Dialects in the Białystok Region] and Atlas językowy kaszubszczyzny i dialektów sąsiednich [A Linguistic Atlas of Kashubian and Neighbouring Dialects]; card files of local dialect materials from the Polish-Lachian linguistic borderland (the villages of Krzanowice and Krzyżanowice); Prof. Dr hab. Janusz Siatkowski’s files on Bohemian studies, including microfilms of sixteenth-century Polish texts
  • electronic databases of local dialect materials (card files for Atlas gwar wschodniosłowiańskich Białostocczyzny [An Atlas of East Slavic Local Dialects in the Białystok Region]).
